, published by Grub Street in 2000 and Interlink in the US in 2002, and now in paperback. Winner of a Japan Festival Award
‘for outstanding achievements in furthering the understanding of Japanese culture in the United Kingdom in 2000. In the same year it was also short-listed for the World Cookbook Awards
and the Guild of Food Writers’
Jeremy Round Award for Best First Cookery Book.
In 2004, I edited and wrote the introduction to Harumi’s Japanese Cooking
(pub: Conran Octopus) by Harumi Kurihara, the well-known Japanese TV chef, ‘The Delia Smith of Japan’. The book jacket says, ‘
Shirley Booth is a recognized authority on the cuisine of Japan. She first went to Japan in 1977 and since her return has been teaching, demonstrating and writing about Japanese cooking. She appears regularly on TV and radio, as well as writing for various magazines.’
Harumi’s book won a prize at the World Cookbook Awards in 2005.

I am interested in the cultural, social and historical aspects of food, and I am keen to help preserve and record traditional food and drink production all over the world.
Recent projects include Sheeps Butter, Pears and Wild Game, all in Portugal; Eels, Pie ‘n’ Mash in London; Cider and Perry in Herefordshire; Sherry in Spain, Bourbon Whisky and Japanese Sake.
